FROM THE PAGES OF HISTORY BEGINS A CENTURY OF WAR.
In the days of China's Eastern Han Dynasty, the young emperor's power was
suppressed by an evil regent as traitorous eunuchs plunged the court into
chaos. The Han bloodline weakened, and the land was split amongst the strong.
It was a chaotic era when bones filled the fields and fires were seen for
thousands of miles. From the flames emerged the brilliant Cao Cao, the
warm-hearted Liu Bei, the wise Sun Quan, the powerful Lü Bu and the
tyrant Dong Zhuo. From beginnings both low and high, these men rose to power
in the third century to compete for the prize: the throne of China.
From the pages of history begins a century of war. The battle, one sure to
split the sky and break the earth, is now unstoppable...

“Xiahou Dun, a descendant of Xiahou Ying, was born in Peiguoqiao County.
During one lesson, at the age of 14, he murdered a fellow student who dared to
curse at their teacher. He was known to Cao Cao for his fiery temper.”

Cao Cao's father Cao Song was a descendant of the famous Western Han official
Xiahou Ying. His family name was changed from Xiahou to Cao when he was given
to the eunuch Cao Tung as an adopted son. When Cao Cao began his war on the
Yellow Turbans, he drew on members of the Xiahou family to aid him in battle.
Xiahou Dun, his second in command, fought for the Kingdom of Wei throughout
his life.
By the age of 14, Xiahou Dun had a reputation for being a fiery character.
When one of his classmates cursed his mentor, Xiahou Dun murdered the student.
The action not only showed his strength and toughness, but also how much
respect he had for his mentor. Later, when he led armies to battle, he
personally invited his mentor to give him more lessons.
Even though he served many years in the battlefield, Xiahou Dun was a
responsible official who focused on supporting the livelihood of his people.
While serving as the governor of Chenliu, a drought occurred and locusts
swarmed the land. He gathered his troops and people and lead them to build
the famous Dashou Hill-Water Irrigation System, which not only saved the
harvest but improved the lives of the soldiers and common people.
Because Xiahou Dun was a righteous official who led a simple life and cared
about both his soldiers and his people, Cao Cao trusted him in spite of his
limited military prowess. Cao Cao appointed him to several important
positions, eventually making Xiahou Dun his important partner in wiping out
competing warlords.
