FROM THE PAGES OF HISTORY BEGINS A CENTURY OF WAR.
In the days of China's Eastern Han Dynasty, the young emperor's power was
suppressed by an evil regent as traitorous eunuchs plunged the court into
chaos. The Han bloodline weakened, and the land was split amongst the strong.
It was a chaotic era when bones filled the fields and fires were seen for
thousands of miles. From the flames emerged the brilliant Cao Cao, the
warm-hearted Liu Bei, the wise Sun Quan, the powerful Lü Bu and the
tyrant Dong Zhuo. From beginnings both low and high, these men rose to power
in the third century to compete for the prize: the throne of China.
From the pages of history begins a century of war. The battle, one sure to
split the sky and break the earth, is now unstoppable...

everyone looked in its direction, they saw the old general Huang Zhong.
Zhuge Liang answered, 'We know you are brave, but you are too old. I don't
think you can defeat him.' Zhong replied, 'I may be old, but I'm still strong
enough to pull a bow with a 180-pound draw.'”

When Cao Cao and Liu Bei were competing for control of Hanzhong, Cao Cao sent
Zhang He to attack Jiameng Keep. Zhuge Liang was undecided about who would
meet him in battle until Huang Zhong, the eldest of Liu Bei's Five Tigers
stepped forward. Although he was in his 70s, the spirited warrior met and
defeated Zhang He and Xiahou Shang at Mt. Tiandang near the fort. He united
with Yan Yan to march onward to the city, and in the ensuing battle killed
Han Hou and Xiahou De.
Before joining Liu Bei, Huang Zhong was a mid-level general stationed in
Jing Province, where he defended Changsha together with Liu Biao's son. When
Cao Cao attacked Jing, he was accepted by Han Xuan, but later he switched to
join Liu Bei.
In the 24th year of Jian'an, after Huang Zhong defeated Xiahou Yuan, Liu Bei
planned to promote him to the highest position in his army. Zhuge Liang
opposed the promotion, saying it would offend the more capable Guan Yu and
Zhang Fei. However, Liu Bei kept his decision and made Huang Zhong a noble
lord as a reward for his glories on the battlefield.
Huang Zhong took to the battlefield one final time at the age of seventy-five
to avenge the murder of Guan Yu by the Kingdom of Wu. While his carelessness
led to him being killed by an arrow in battle, his bravery at such an old age
was highly respected.
